GO DEEPER: the powerful beauty benefits of facial serums
Categories: Beauty, Our ProductsJanuary 19, 2015 | Posted by Mukti
Facial serums take your daily skincare ritual to a deeper level. They have a light, gel-based or oil-free texture with a higher concentration of active ingredients than a moisturiser.
The smaller molecular structure of facial serums means they have the ability to penetrate more deeply into the skin, delivering more beauty benefits.
Think: faster, lighter, deeper.
Moisturisers are used primarily to keep the skin smooth, moisturised and hydrated. Facial serums hydrate the skin, but they can also:
- reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles
- create a more even skin tone
- tighten pores
- reduce the appearance of broken capillaries
- reduce the appearance of age spots
Moisturisers vs facial serums: do you need both?
Technically, no but this can also be influenced by climate and age.
If your skin is feeling like it requires extra hydration, then definitely incorporate a moisturiser after you have applied your serum.
If however, you are perfectly happy with your skin and it’s showing no visible signs of aging or discolouration, then you can get away with daily cleansing, toning and moisturising.
Those with oily skin could even replace their moisturiser with a serum. In fact, a lot of men and women in the under-25 bracket use the Mukti Organics Antioxidant Facial Serum as their everyday 'moisturiser', as they prefer the non-oily texture and feel.
If you do use a daily moisturiser and are wondering if you should use a facial serum as well, then I would say go for it. You will be supercharging your skincare routine by infusing your skin with highly concentrated, targeted ingredients and you will definitely see results.
Starting early with maintenance, regeneration and repair will assist your complexion in the latter years.
Are facial serums worth the money?
Yes, facial serums do cost more, but it's not a gimmick. It's the sheer number of highly bioactive ingredients you're paying for. The bottle of a facial serum is literally jam-packed with one nutrient after another. No fillers.
On the plus side — you only need to use a tiny amount. Our facial serums on average should last 2–3 months.
When to apply a facial serum
Since moisturisers contain larger molecules they are heavier and sit on top of the skin, locking moisture in like a blanket and stopping the skin from drying out. But they can also lock active ingredients out.
For this reason it's important to apply your serum after cleansing and toning but BEFORE moisturising.
Remember to incorporate your neck and decolletage and sweep the serum out to the ear lobes.

Wow this really explained the differnces in serums properly thank you. I've been quite confused with all the different serums and what to use when and why. It sounds like I need to start using the Age Defiance range as I just turned 34 and very fine lines are starting to show around my eyes, not acceptable! ;)

I have been through many blogs and i did not find this much information. Years ago I started using organic products and now I find the difference on my skin although it is a waiting game but it's worth it.
Thanks for so much information

Good to know - this is something I've been wondering about for a while, but been too lazy to ask! Looks like I'll be modifying my regime in the near future :)
