Let's get naked: the biggest beauty trend of 2016

While past makeup and beauty trends have favoured heavy foundation and contouring (great for masking blemishes and dull skin – shoutout to Kim Kardashian), this year’s biggest trend will be natural skin with a healthy glow, according to some makeup artist friends I chatted with recently.

While 2015 saw a lot of nude skin, 2016 will up the ante when it comes to baring all. The look will be sun-kissed rather than tanned, with sheer washes and illuminators to give a multidimensional, healthy glow to the skin. Pops of bright colour either on the eyes or the lips and doll-like, separated eyelashes will be big, too.

Think dewy, fresh, just-left-the-spa skin rather than overdone caked-on makeup. 

To achieve this look, you MUST start with perfect skin as your base. That means paying extra attention to your skincare regime to create a flawless complexion. Make sure you cleanse morning and night with the right cleanser for your skin type, then tone and moisturise. That’s just for starters. Then to supercharge things and get that on-trend perfect skin, use an anti-aging serum, a resurfacing exfoliant and a nourishing mask regularly.

Perfect skin gives you the confidence to let your natural beauty shine through, without feeling like you have anything to hide. This year we’ll see more freckles being set free and softer, more natural eyebrows bringing an earthier, more youthful look to the face. 

Using technology to achieve perfect skin

Another big trend in the cosmetics industry for 2016 is technology, which is finding its way into skincare and makeup products in a big way. This year we will really begin to see technology being used in fabulous new product formulations. 

One example is the bioactive native Australian botanical extracts we use in our products. We source them from a company called Native Extracts, which uses revolutionary extraction technology to ensure the phyto-active compounds in the plants are stabilised in the same format as they exist in nature. This increasing interest in Australian plants for health and beauty reflects the worldwide trend in all things pure, natural, indigenous and organic. You can’t look sideways without a new health and wellness website popping up, right?

It makes sense that with the movement towards health and wellness becoming so huge, there's also a corresponding trend in natural beauty and perfect skin that’s flawless and glowing with good health.
