Natural age spot removal — easier to naturally treat than you think!

Natural age spot removal has become a hot topic on the internet, as people seek to remove these all too obvious signs of aging without using harsh chemicals and with natural remedies. Age spots are one of the first signs that alas, we're not as young as we once were. The dark spots usually appear first on our hands and face  — the areas most exposed to the sun — and most exposed to the public eye. So, it comes as no surprise that one of the most searched for terms is 'natural remedies for age spots'

I heard a story about one woman whose husband tried to wipe an age spot off her face, thinking it was dirt! She was not impressed to say the least.

While some people aren’t bothered by them, many are, and that’s totally understandable, especially if you feel they’re making you look older than your years.

Age spots are usually flat areas of discolouration on the skin that are larger than freckles, and can range in colour from light flesh to quite a dark brown. If you’re over 40 and have spent time in the sun in your younger years, chances are you'll have developed age spots, or areas of hyperpigmentation where excess melanin forms.

Age spots are often called ‘liver spots’, but they’re not a sign your liver is about to pack it in. They’re more an indication of how much sun exposure you’ve had in your lifetime, and they can also be a sign of a potassium or selenium deficiency.

They develop over a long time, and there’s no quick fix, but the good news is there are tonnes of natural remedies around that people absolutely swear by and that can assist with lightening and brightening your overall complexion and treat age spots naturally.

Natural TREATMENT for age spots

It is important to remember that age spots don't occur overnight, nor will they disappear overnight when using natural treatments. However, by incorporating some of these remedies for natural age spot removal into your daily routine, you will be able to effectively treat them.

  1. Use Mukti Age Defence Night Serum every night. It contains a specific peptide that works on skin whitening as well as CoQ10, niacinamide and vitamin A to help fade age spots.
  2. Use Mukti Vital C Elixir first thing in the morning beneath your daily environmental protection. It contains a number of skin lightening and brightening ingredients such as knotgrass extract that specifically targets infrared (IR) and thermal (heat) induced skin aging to protect the elastic fibres of the dermis from sun damage after repeated sun exposure. It also contains Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate (MAP) a form of vitamin C which acts as a powerful collagen stimulator. Vitamin C is well known to significantly reduce the appearance of aged skin and wrinkles and increase firmness to prevent premature skin aging.
  3. If you think your diet may be lacking in potassium, boost your intake of potassium-rich foods like bananas, oranges, milk, kiwi fruit, avocados, dates and figs.
  4. Visit your natural health practitioner and ask about foods and supplements that contain selenium, vitamin C, vitamin E and zinc — important vitamins and minerals for skin health that can help in treating and even reversing age spots naturally.
  5. Use our Aloe Vera Moisturiser or plant some aloe vera and rub the gel from inside the leaf onto the age spots twice a day for two months as a natural remedy for treating them.
  6. Lactic acid found in buttermilk is said to help fade age spots, so try rubbing some on to the dark spots each day.
  7. Honey and yoghurt is a natural skin bleach that can treat age spots. Mix a teaspoon of natural yoghurt with a teaspoon of honey, rub it onto your age spots, let it dry and wash it off after 30 minutes. If you do this once a day, your age spots should start to lighten.
  8. The Chinese herb gotu kola has been known to clear up age spots in just a few days, because it stimulates collagen and the growth of new, healthy cells.
  9. Try rubbing in some lemon juice each day — citric acid is a natural remedy that helps to fade age spots.
  10. Red onion and garlic are said to be a natural treatment that can fade age spots — try rubbing onion or garlic on the spot, leave it for five minutes, and rinse off. Repeat each day for two weeks and you should notice a difference.
  11. To prevent new age spots forming, minimise your sun exposure, and wear a natural sunscreen, hat and sunglasses which helps protect you from the damaging UV rays.

REMEDIES TO AVOID FOR TREATING AGE SPOTS

Whatever you do, be very wary of skin bleaching or lightening products and aim for organic, natural remedies for treating age spots. They contain particularly nasty chemicals such as hydroquinone, which is believed to be a carcinogen and is banned in many countries.

Some age spots can look a lot like skin cancers, so if you notice one changing colour or shape, have a skin check immediately. Err on the side of caution and for peace of mind, get a yearly skin check up, especially if you live in Australia.
