food for clear skinWhen we incorporate foods into our diet that are nourishing and filled with vitamins and antioxidants, our whole body benefits including our largest organ – our skin.

So love the skin you are in by adding these top 10 to your summer meal plan.

1. Blueberries

Blueberries and other dark coloured berries contain high concentrations of antioxidants and can assist with red blotchy skin conditions.

2. Sweet potatoes

Rich in beta-carotene, an antioxidant that helps the body repair damaged skin cells. Try adding them to salads and substituting potatoes for sweet potatoes.

3. Almonds

4. Chia and flax seeds

Research dating back to as early as the 1920’s purports the benefits of omega-3 essential fatty acids (EFA’s) to promote healthy skin. These EFA’s strengthen and repair the cell membrane and protect the skin from harmful toxins. You can soak them overnight and add to your superfood skin smoothie.

5. Papaya

7. Green tea

8. Water

We are 70 percent water, so the importance of staying hydrated on the inside and flushing out toxins cannot be excluded from the list!

9. Collard greens

Contain more antioxidants than kale and also have anti-inflammatory properties.

10. Brazil nuts

Contain high concentrations of selenium that works in conjunction with vitamin E to protect the skin from the harmful effects of free radicals.
