Your Clean Beauty Guarantee

You may have noticed the COSMOS logo popping up everywhere in bathrooms across the globe and there’s a good reason. COSMOS is now considered to be as the go-to gold standard for cosmetics, skincare and personal care products.

Australian Certified Organic (ACO) is the first Asia-Pacific based certifier accredited under the Cosmetics Organic and Natural Standard (COSMOS) as an approved certifier for Organic and Natural cosmetics and cosmetic ingredients.

If you've made a recent purchase of our products, you'll see our new COSMOS ACO logo. We spent most of t

his year becoming certified, which was a huge undertaking. We're extremely thrilled to have been awarded as the Australian Certified Organic Influencer Brand for 2019.

What is COSMOS standard?

COSMOS standard is the result of a harmonization effort conducted by five leading European certification bodies: BDHI (Germany), Cosmebio (France), Ecocert (France), ICEA (Italy) and Soil Association (UK) with the aim to create a global Organic and Natural Cosmetics Standard.

It was created in lieu of a universally recognised organic accreditation for cosmetics, personal care and skincare products. It’s not only loyal to organics – it has an organic and a natural scheme, which means you will see COSMOS Organic and COSMOS Natural logos on certified organic skincare and cosmetics. Not to be confused with other "natural” marketing claims.

The complexity of beauty

As a certified organic beauty brand and formulator, we have tough customers. After all, you want products that have efficaciousness and deliver results. You want conditioners and concealers that aren’t bad for your health or the environment. And you want them to perform miracles like detangle your hair or hide spots for truly clean beauty.

Unlike food standards, cosmetics and skincare need lots of ingredients to perform tasks. So it all becomes a little more complicated  – moisturisers, surfactants, emulsifiers, preservatives and minerals for colouring all work together to help create effective and potent anti-aging topicals.

What does COSMOS Organic mean?

Of the physically processed plant ingredients, COSMOS products must be 95% certified organic with a minimum of 20% organic ingredients including water and salt. As a comparison, for food or drink to wear one of the Australian organic logos, they must have at least 95% certified organic ingredients. Most organic certifications exclude water, minerals and salt because, as naturally occurring substances, they can’t technically be classified as organic. The main elements that COSMOS products must adhere to include:

What does COSMOS Natural mean?

It has the same rules as COSMOS Organic except that ingredients don’t have to be certified organic. However, they need to be from natural origins. This means they’re sourced from plant, vegetable, mineral or marine renewable sources. They can’t be derived from GMO ingredients or from synthetic chemical processing.

Why choose Certified products?

Overall, you're better off buying a certified product, you may pay a premium. Butat the end of the day, you can't put a price on your health or the quality of the ingredients you use on your skin. You're assured that a third party has checked the ingredients, which doesn’t happen in the conventional skincare and cosmetic industry. Companies that are certified have to adhere to very strict guidelines with traceable processes and an auditing trail for all inputs. This helps create a safe and trustworthy environment for everyone.

My goal is to bridge the gap and create products that are certified organic and veritably natural, but still create a positive change in the skin and deliver results. If you want to find out more about all things beauty, my book "Truth in Beauty", will assist you on your journey.

Tell us what your favourite product in the range is and why and you’ll receive it as a gift.
Congratulations to last month’s winner Rochelle. G. who wins $150 worth of products of her choice.

Let's get naked: the biggest beauty trend of 2016

While past makeup and beauty trends have favoured heavy foundation and contouring (great for masking blemishes and dull skin – shoutout to Kim Kardashian), this year’s biggest trend will be natural skin with a healthy glow, according to some makeup artist friends I chatted with rece...

The beauty of minimalism

There is such great beauty in minimalism. Have you ever strolled through a Japanese garden? If you have, you’ll know what I mean. The sense of peace and balance is exquisite, with carefully placed foliage and calming lines raked into sand or pebbles to create a living work of art that stills...
