Which Natural Skincare Ingredients Are Anti-Ageing?

Which Natural Skincare Ingredients Are Anti-Aging?

What we’re hearing from most lovers of skincare, in today’s saturated beauty landscape, is a sense of overwhelm when it comes to ingredients.

It is ALL about the actives, and while consumers are still seeking better, stronger, more potent products, this demand has flooded the supply to the point where most skincare enthusiasts are confused and uncertain about their routine. Many are even experiencing damaged and disrupted skin barriers by using too many high-strength products, over-exfoliating with chemical peels agents, and forgetting to replenish the skin with the calming and nourishing agents.

This is common during the pursuit of the best anti-aging skincare routine, as our go-to train of thought has become ‘stronger is better’. But high-strength retinols and exfoliating acids aren’t the only ingredients to reach for. There are plenty of other more gentle ingredients (either plant-derived or already found in the body) that can effectively reduce and prevent signs of aging, that can work in replacement of, or support alongside, high-dose synthetic actives.

Plant Extracts

Ingredients like chamomile, aloe vera, green tea, algae, fruits or berries may seem relatively old-fashioned when compared with things encapsulated, slow-release retinoic acid. However, it’s crucial to remember that these have been used for centuries due to their long history of testing and proven efficacy. The same cannot be said for newer ingredients or the latest trends. Chamomile and aloe vera remain two of the best anti-inflammatory ingredients at our disposal, certain algaes can offer an incredible array of minerals that the skin needs to function, and some fruits contain incredibly high doses of vitamins that may be even more bioavailable than their synthetic counterparts.

Optimising our skin’s pre-existing functions with the vitamins and minerals it needs is the best possible foundation for age prevention, as well as boosting the outcomes of anti-aging treatments in-clinic.

Our entire skincare range is formulated with plant extracts, harnessing the incredible power of nature.

Ceramides

If the skin’s barrier has been damaged by over-indulging in active products, ceramides are one of the most crucial substances for repairing and re-strengthening it. Ceramides are waxy lipids, and make up a large portion of our body’s skin structure - hence their importance in barrier maintenance. They can also be found naturally in wheat, soy, rice, jojoba, safflower, shea butter and more.

Our overnight miracle cream, Queen of the Night, is formulated with Ceramides, plant-based stem cells, and an abundance of antioxidants to repair your skin while you sleep.

Antioxidants

Antioxidants play an enormous role in skin care and anti-ageing. This is because they are the only things that can neutralise free radicals, and free radicals can have a tremendous impact on premature aging. Free radicals occur as a normal, healthy part of our body’s functions, but too many can be damaging, breaking down collagen and causing premature cell death. Antioxidants can be found in most plants, but in particular abundance in citrus fruits, berries, olive extracts, red and purple vegetables, coffee, and more. Keeping the skin youthful, retaining volume, and reducing lines and wrinkles needn’t be aggressive.

Sometimes the best solutions can be the most simple, and utilising the above natural substances should provide the basis for any and all skin routines - especially if age prevention is front of mind.
