10 Best Age Defying Oils to Feed Your Skin

Without a shadow of a doubt, botanical oils are one of the best ingredients for your skin. They contain many essential fatty acids such as omega

3, & 9, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals that feed, nourish and nurture aging skin and assist in fighting free radical and environmental damage.

Oils are fat loving or lipophilic, which means that they pass through the lipid layer of the skin faster, preventing transdermal water loss (TEWL), plumping and hydrating the skin with moisture more effectively.

If for example, you apply an oil such as our Antioxidant Facial Oil Omega 3-6-9 before your age defiance serum or daily moisturiser, the oil molecules will have the ability to allow the skin to let in more active ingredients – like peptides, vitamins, minerals and and extracts – deeper into the skin and closer to the collagen-producing fibroblasts, all without irritating the surface of the skin. This is particularly beneficial in the winter months when the skin requires extra hydration and may be more prone to irritation.

Solely using plant oils as a primary form of moisturising the skin is not recommended, as they lack the complete profile of ingredients to keep the skin young, supple and healthy. An arsenal of additional products including a cleanser, moisturiser and serum are formulated to do exactly this and contain ingredients that communicate with the skin cells and work on repairing the skin.  A healthy lipid barrier prevents dehydration and supports the retention of moisture in the skin.

A well-balanced blend of oils is going to have a much better impact on the complexion than a single oil used on its own. Skin conditions such as rosacea, wrinkles, sun damage and acne are complex issues to resolve and require a combination of specific products to effectively treat and obtain the desired results.

Here is my top ten list of oils to use on the skin:

1. CALENDULA OIL

Rich in beta-carotene it has renowned anti-inflammatory and healing properties. Contains carotenoids, oleanolic acid, mucilage and essential oil. It is a stimulant, demulcent softener and freshener that is useful for inflammation, rashes, eczema, psoriasis, chapping, soothing and softening for all skin types. Extracts of calendula may assist with the stimulation and formation of new tissue, and is obtained from the calendula or marigold blossom.

The following products contain this ingredient: Balancing Foaming Cleanser, Antioxidant Facial Oil Omega 3-6- 9, Aloe Vera Moisturiser, Tinted Moisturiser with Sunscreen, Marigold Hydrating Creme, Rosehip Eye Gel, Nature Balm.

2. carrot seed oil

A potent skin healing oil that is used primarily for dry and mature skins. Its high carotol content gives it skin-rejuvenating and regenerating properties and helps to alleviate the effects of environmental stressors. Carrot seed oil contains an abundance of pro-vitamin A, carotene and carotenoids, as well as B1, B2, tocopherols (Vit E), F and minerals. It acts as a protectant for the external skin layers and prevents cornification of the skin. It is also beneficial in the acceleration and formation of new cells, and reinforces the resistance of the skin. It assists with stimulating the secretion of sebum, therefore having a softening and anti-drying effect. Assists with revitalising and toning mature complexions.

Hello, are face oils better used in the night since they may not be stable in the day due to oxidation in the day from UV rays?

Thanks,
Thelma

Hi Thelma
Oils also contain SPF factors and are suitable to use during the day. There are a few essential oils that are contraindicated in sunlight. As to oxidation and reactivity with sunlight I am not aware of this being an issue.

Hi! You mostly recommend using this oil nighly but also as a daily moisturiser. I heard one skincare producer says that Omega 3 6 9 oils are not stable in terms of UV hence should not be used for AM applications, they are suitable strictly for PM usage.

He also adds that under UV these oils are breaking into parts which may be damaging for the skin. Could you please comment? To me this is a total nonsence but maybe he has a point.

Thanks!

Curious. Can you please send through the links to this data. I'd be very interested to have a look and to see the scientific validation.

It's been over a month now I've been using your Mukti regime...I've been seeing progressive improvement on my skin each day! I appreciate how you have all your ingredients listed on your products and the benefits they will give. I've included in my regimen the Antioxidant Facial Oil Omega 3,6,9. I do love how it just absorbs into the skin and lovely scent also not leaving skin oily. Thank you for the tip: putting the oil first before the serum or moisturizer...I did it the opposite:(
